I am all for taking an interesting holiday as opposed to the typical beach vacation. I quite like the idea of seeing fascinating sights and doing things I would never normally get the chance to do. That's what a holiday should be about isn't it? However my open-minded attitude took a bit of a blow when I heard about mushroom-picking holidays. In fact it seemed to me adding the word holiday after the words mushroom-picking was a bit of a joke. But hey everyone is entitled to change their mind and even I am coming round to this weird but wonderful holiday.
Mushroom-picking gives you the opportunity to be out in the great outdoors, be active and take part in something you’d never normally get to do. A local guide will show you around the area and woodland and tell you the best way to pick mushrooms and the best ones to pick.
Mushrooming season is typically throughout May and June although this varies depending on the location you choose. And that’s the best bit - Mushroom picking can be done in a variety of different countries. You can pick the country you’d most like to visit and include the mushroom-picking as an added bonus.
Mushroom-picking gives holiday-makers the chance to do something completely different and, once you get over the strangeness of it all, it’s actually quite fun! Plus you’ll learn a few things along the way - when you get home you can impress your friends with your knowledge of mushrooms. Weird and wonderful indeed.
